Ιmplementation of a Warehouse Management System (WMS).
The e-shop Gatoskilo, part of the Pet City Group, has successfully implemented a Warehouse Management System (WMS), achieving faster order fulfillment, greater inventory accuracy and optimized inventory management. As a result, the company has gained significant productivity benefits and enhanced the overall customer service experience.
With a focus on quick deployment, which was the primary challenge, the company selected the WMS solution by M&A Solutions (WMS4All). The project team—comprising M&A Solutions (vendor), INGENIO (implementor) and key executives from the Pet City Group—leveraged its extensive expertise to adopt an approach that involved analyzing and optimizing existing warehouse processes. The initial focus was on goods receiving, order picking and inventory management.
The team then established the necessary rules and synchronization to enable seamless integration between the Soft1 ERP and WMS systems, ensuring consistent and reliable data across all platforms.
With this foundation established, the WMS software was installed and customized according to the business’s documented requirements. As for the infrastructure, new Zebra devices were added alongside the existing equipment. The combination of these with the WMS mobile app significantly reduced the dependency on printed information, facilitating faster and more flexible management.
The company now has a well-organized warehouse layout that is fully integrated into the system. Employees use location data, easily accessed on their PDAs, to find picking items and to store received stock in the designated areas assigned by the system.
All processes, particularly order fulfillment, are now faster and more efficient, with minimal user input required. Barcode scanning eliminates past typing errors, greatly enhancing both the accuracy and speed of operations.
The integrated reporting system (Dashboards) and real-time inventory tracking are two powerful tools. The data collected improves the monitoring and optimization of both daily and strategic warehouse processes, empowering management to make quicker, more informed decisions for greater operational efficiency. Regarding the workforce, new warehouse team members can now easily adapt to the business’ needs, as the software requires minimal training. Meanwhile, experienced employees are becoming more familiar with the system and are increasingly able to propose targeted improvements for both the system and their daily operations.
