The Client

Katerini Veterinary Clinic is a model facility providing medical services for small animals. The clinic is equipped with modern medical technology that is directly connected to the clinic’s business network.

The Challenge

The clinic’s operation relies not only on medical expertise but also on the uninterrupted performance of its digital infrastructure. The environment includes:

• 6 Workstations (PCs): Used for patient management and appointment scheduling.
• Critical Medical Equipment: Digital X-ray system, ultrasound scanner, and hematology analyzers.

The main requirements were:

1. Data Security: Protection of sensitive medical records and imaging results from cyber threats (e.g. ransomware).
2. Network Stability: Medical equipment must communicate continuously with servers for result recording and storage.
3. Secure Backup: Ensuring that years of medical history would not be lost in the event of hardware failure.

INGENIO’s Solution

INGENIO analyzed the clinic’s needs and implemented a complete security and data storage ecosystem.

1. Network Security: Fortinet FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall

A FortiGate Firewall was installed as the “core” of the clinic’s security.

• What it provides: Full control of inbound and outbound traffic, malware filtering, and intrusion prevention.
• Segmentation: Network segmentation ensures that critical medical equipment (X-ray / ultrasound) is isolated and protected from the guest network (Guest Wi-Fi) or standard office applications.

2. Wireless Networking: 2 × Fortinet FortiAPs

To fully cover the clinic’s premises, two FortiAP access points were installed.

• What it provides: A single, unified network (SSID) throughout the facility. Veterinarians can move from examination rooms to the operating rooms using tablets or laptops without connection interruptions (seamless roaming), maintaining immediate access to diagnostic results.

3. Data Protection: Synology NAS

A Synology NAS (Network Attached Storage) system was deployed for centralized storage and backup.

• What it provides: Automated daily backups from all PCs and medical equipment. X-ray images and ultrasound results are now stored centrally and securely, eliminating the risk of data loss due to hard-drive failure on individual workstations.
